2008 CAL ROWING CAMPS FOR GIRLS
Learn from the 2006 National Champions this summer!

Join the Cal Crew Coaching Staff for four days of Rowing at the University of California, Berkeley. All sessions will have a high level of rowing instruction, conditioning work, lectures, team building, and lots of fun for rowers and coxswains!

Our camps are designed for all skill levels, from the absolute beginner to Junior National Champion rowers. These are rigorous camps for those who are motivated to learn and improve.

Each day rowing sessions will be offered in 8+'s, 4+'s, and pairs for more experienced rowers. Off the water campers will participate in land training workouts and lectures. Land training sessions will cover ERG training, weight lifting, core strength, and other aspects of conditioning and base fitness.

Coxswains will significantly advance their skills at this camp.

All three sessions will be offered as Overnight Camps only (no Day Camp option). Our camps are available over the course of the summer, with the intent that there will be something that will fit into everyone's schedule. All camps will begin on a Monday and end on a Thursday. Based on our experience, camp participants who return home each night miss out on important and enjoyable elements of our camps. A resident only camp allows all campers to take in the complete Cal Crew Camp experience!

All camp participants must be Age 13-18 or entering high school in the following academic year. Camp participants must be able to tread water for at least 10 minutes. Upon registration, camp participants must verify their comfort in the water.

This is a great opportunity to hone your abilities over the summer or simply try out a brand new sport. Space in camps is limited to 26 rowers and 5 coxswains to insure plenty of individual work and personal attention. You will be asked during the enrollment process if you are interested in attending as a rower or a cox. Please enroll early to save your spot!

Rowing practices will be held out of Cal's boathouse; the T. Gary Rogers Rowing Center on the Oakland Estuary (located about 8 miles from campus). The T. Gary Rogers Rowing Center was completed in 2005, and offers a beautiful, state-of-the-art facility for athletes to train. Transportation to practice facilities will be provided by our licensed drivers. Land practices will be held on campus in the Cal ERG Room, where plenty of ERG's and weight lifting equipment will be available for everyone.

COACHING STAFF

Cal Crew Camps will be directed by Sara Nevin, Cal Women's Crew Assistant Coach. Nevin will be assisted by current Cal student-athletes, and camp participants will have the opportunity to meet and train with Cal Women's Crew Head Coach & 2005 National Coach of the Year, Dave O'Neill.

Sara Nevin is in her seventh year as Cal Assistant Coach. During her tenure at Cal, the novice rowers have become a consistent force to contend with in the Pac-10 Conference, including a first place finish at the 2004 & 2006 Pac-10 Championships as well as the 2006 National Championship.

Formerly, Nevin served as the Executive Director and Head Coach of the Lake Lanier Rowing Club in Gainesville, GA. During her five years spent in Georgia, she coached all levels including beginner through National Team rowers. Nevin also served as varsity boys coach at Mount Baker Rowing Club in Seattle, where her team earned four national championship titles under her leadership.

As an athlete, Nevin was a two-time Junior National Champion, as well as a three-time Collegiate National Champion in the Varsity Eight at the University of Washington. In addition, she was member of the U.S. National Team for two years.

Nevin's sharp technical eye and enthusiasm for the sport combine for a great learning environment for rowers and coxswains of all levels.
